What are the benefits of loft insulation?
We usually install loft insulation up to a depth between 270mm and 300mm. The mineral fibre is laid between the joists and then we cross-lay another layer over that to ensure there are no gaps. The insulation acts like a large duvet covering your house stopping the heat from escaping into your loft space and exiting the roof.
The Energy Saving Trust estimates that you could save up to £215 a year by adding loft insulation.

Loft insulation is important as heat will always flow from a warm area to a cold one as hot air rises. The colder it is outside, the faster heat from your home will escape into the surrounding air and up through the roof. Insulation makes it much more difficult for heat to escape by providing an insulating layer filled with air pockets. Air is a poor conductor of heat, so the heat is trapped inside, rather than escaping through the roof. Knauf Insulation Loft Roll 44 is a Glass Mineral Wool roll, designed for use in cold lofts where pitched roofs are insulated at ceiling level, that offers good thermal performance helping to prevent rising heat from escaping.
It is non-combustible with the best possible Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification, and is manufactured using Knauf Insulation's unique bio-based binder, ECOSE® Technology.
